Woman stabbed during robbery - Kempsey
POLICE from Mid North Coast Local Area Command are appealing for public assistance to identify a man who attacked and robbed a woman at Kempsey.
The 50-year-old woman is an employee at a tobacconist in Belgrave Street and was sitting in her car on Monday about 5pm when she was approached by a man armed with a knife.
The woman told police she was stabbed when she kicked out at the man after he demanded her handbag.
He ran from the scene after stealing the handbag.
The woman was taken to Kempsey Base Hospital where she received multiple stitches to a serious wound to her left ankle. She has since been released.
Police are now looking for a man they believe can assist with their investigation.
He is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged about 30, about 185cm tall, with a short beard. At the time he was wearing a black hooded jumper and black tracksuit pants with two white stripes along the side. He was carrying a carving knife.
Police are seeking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information about this man, to contact Kempsey Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police warn the public not to approach the man.
