Weir chases his first Makybe Diva Stakes win
PREMIER Victorian trainer Darren Weir is saddling up three runners in his pursuit of his first success in the Makybe Diva Stakes.
The star trainer has a very strong hand in the race with Black Heart Bart and Palentino currently the top two fancies with Ladbrokes, as well as outsider Prince Of Penzance, who continues on his path to this year's Melbourne Cup.
Black Heart Bart is currently the clear favourite for the race with Ladbrokes as he looks for back-to-back Group 1 wins. Damien Oliver will be on board for the first time as he takes over the reins from the suspended Brad Rawiller. The former Western Australian galloper is racing in great form and will be extremely hard to beat again.
Punters believe Palentino may be the biggest threat to the favourite. He has been the best-supported runner with Ladbrokes since betting commenced. He has raced very well at Flemington in the past, having had three starts for two wins and a controversial second placing in last year's C.S. Hayes Stakes.
Weir won't have it all his own way though. There is a total of eight individual Group 1 winners in the race.
Doomben Cup winner Our Ivanhowe is first up on Saturday as he looks to emulate last year's winner Fawkner, which took out the race first up.
Tarzino, which has tasted Group 1 success at Flemington in the past, is sure to be charging home as he continues his campaign on the way to the Caulfield and Melbourne cups.
When you throw in other Group 1 winners such as Rising Romance, Sofia Rosa and Happy Trails it is set to be a great edition of the Makybe Diva Stakes.
