Two killed in another highway accident

TWO people have died after a car left the Pacific Highway and struck a tree south of Port Macquarie this morning.

The accident, just south of Kew, adds to an already dark week on the Pacific Highway after yesterday's double fatal at Urunga where a truck ran off the road and ploughed into a house.

This morning just after 6am, emergency services and police from Taree were called to the crash just south of Kew.

Police said about 1.5 kilometres north of the intersection with Hammond Vale Rd officers located a Toyota which appears to have left the north bound lanes of the highway and struck a tree.

The two occupants of the vehicle were deceased and police from the Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command have commenced an investigation.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit have been called to the location and a crime scene has been established.

Motorists are advised that traffic in one northbound lane has been stopped while emergency services remain at the crash site.
