Three members of one family charged with Jetty murder

THREE members of the one family have now been charged with murder over a fatal assault at the Coffs Harbour Jetty where a man was allegedly bashed with weapons.

Coffs Harbour detectives this week arrested a Coffs Harbour couple and upgraded the charges against them to murder.

Michele Kathleen Moore, 49, her partner Brendan James Price, 41, and her son James Moore, 26, of North Boambee stand accused of the armed assault on a 50-year-old man outside a property on the corner of Edgar and Collingwood streets.

Police allege the man was struck multiple times with a metal bar and a piece of wood during a dispute on Sunday, October 28 just after 4.30pm.

The man was airlifted from Coffs Harbour Base Hospital in a critical condition suffering severe head trauma, but died in Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital on Tuesday, October 30.

Charges against the trio have since been upgraded to murder.

Detectives handling the investigation arrested the Coffs Harbour couple at their Spagnolos Rd home on Thursday and took them into custody.

"They have been persons of interest for a while and police have been conducting ongoing investigations which have led us to where we are today," Coffs Clarence Local Area Commander Superintendent Mark Holahan said.

The trio have been refused bail to reappear in the Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday.
