Thanks for a bloody good effort
RESIDENTS on the Coffs Coast have helped to ease the traditional shortage of blood donations required across NSW over Easter.
A community challenge instigated by the Australian Red Cross Blood Bank, Park Beach HomeBase and local radio station 2CS aimed to save lives through donations over a four week period.
The initiative was run over Easter, which unusually sees donations drop off.
2CS-FM afternoon radio presenter Vashti Broadbent said the original target was to achieve enough donations to save 2012 lives over four weeks, but with that already achieved they're aiming to save the same amount of lives as the Coffs Harbour postcode - 2450 before the week is out.
"As of 1pm today the tally was still growing 680 donations and counting which is already 2045 lives saved," Vashti said.
Another live broadcast from the donor centre will run tomorrow from 1pm to 5pm.
"New donors are needed to help build the stocks so we would encourage any schools, businesses or community groups interested in taking part to call us on 13 14 95," Coffs Harbour Australian Red Cross Blood Bank community relations officer Carrie Skinner said.
