Temporary Woopi bypass closure up for council debate

THE Pacific Hwy bypass of Woolgoolga would be temporarily closed for the safety of road workers, under a proposal to be considered at tonight's Coffs Harbour City Council meeting.

Roads and Maritime Services has proposed a "traffic elimination trial" that would have the bypass closed for two days later this year.

The state-wide plan states that road work near fast- moving traffic is putting workers at risk.

If approved, traffic would be diverted through Woolgoolga as work, including litter collection, is conducted on the bypass.

A council report recommended councillors support the move.

Other items up for discussion include the council's financial reporting of its business entity - Coastal Works.

Cr Sally Townley will move a motion for the council to provide monthly financial reports dating from June 2014.

She said having information would help councillors better understand Coastal Works' financial position.
