School moved by Bethany’s brave act for her late father

WHILE other students were thinking about sandwiches and juice boxes just before the lunch time bell, 15 year old Bethany Edwards had bigger things on her mind.

A Year 10 student at Toormina high school, Bethany had pledged to shave her long hair as part of the annual World's Greatest Shave fund-raiser for the Leukaemia Foundation, and Thursday was "shave day".

"My inspiration to shave my hair is my dad, Richard Edwards," Bethany said.

"In August 2005 he was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukaemia and in January 2006 he lost his battle and passed away.

"My goal is to raise as much money as possible to help find a cure and prevent other families going through the loss of their loved ones."

Not only did Bethany raise money and awareness by having her head shaved, she organised to have her hair donated to Ascot Wigs who create wigs for cancer patients.
