Road to Summer likely favourite for $25,000 Cup
NAMBUCCA River Jockey Club will conduct its feature meeting this Saturday.
The $25,000 Bowraville Cup (1370m) is the main event on the TAB program supported by the $17,000 Lightning Bend Handicap (1000m).
Early nominations for the Cup include multiple winner Road To Summer which could start favourite, along with Queenslander French Command.
In the sprint, Grafton trained Curley Mac will have plenty off support with a vast drop in class from its last run behind Single Spirit in the Ballina Cup.
Final fields will be declared at 11am tomorrow.
Meanwhile, star jockey Glen Colless is back cracking jokes after a narrow brush with serious injury after falling from Hazard Bay while on his way to the barrier for a race at Doomben on Saturday.
While the fall looked a simple tumble, ambulance officers realised it was much more serious when Colless failed to get to his feet.
With the jockey prone on the turf, the fractious filly stomped on his face, breaking his jaw and crushing his nose.
That nose has earned him the nickname "Spike" but may require a substitute in future.
"It might have fixed my nose up," he quipped. "I had a real big one before but it's a bit shorter now.
"There's a fair bit of pain and a lot of trauma to my face but I'll get over it in time."
The spill forced Colless to give up rides at Coffs Harbour on Monday and there's no word yet when he can return to the saddle.
Now released from hospital, he'll convalesce at his home on the Gold Coast.
