Right moves made for mental health
ART will again be used to draw attention to mental health issues and stigmas in Coffs Harbour.
A Mental Health Month art exhibition, featuring works created at art therapy workshops, will display at Jeffery Baker Studios next week.
The 5th annual CHESS Community Mental Health Art Exhibition aims to prove those living with mental health issues have a lot to contribute.
The 2010 exhibition, featuring more than 60 artworks, will go on display on Monday with an official opening at the studios on Thursday.
Organisers say past exhibitions have shown participants’ self-esteem and sense of social inclusion is greatly assisted by displaying artworks in a public arena.
The works, which are available for sale, can also provide an additional income stream for clients.
The exhibition is a joint undertaking by Chess and Personal Helpers and Mentors.
Other services exhibiting this year include Northern Kids Care, Macksville and Woolgoolga Living Skills, Youth Art Group ‘Clay Work’ and the Ted Noffs Foundation.
