Relay ready for rain

WET weather may dampen the spirits of some event organisers but there will be no raining on Relay for Life's parade.

In past years, rain and Relay for Life - a major Cancer Council fundraiser - have been closely linked, with committee members and participants accustomed to bringing their brollies and gumboots.

Two years ago, sloshy grounds called for a site change. This year's new venue, the Coffs Harbour Showground, will ensure there is solid ground to walk on, no matter what the weather does.

Cancer Council community relations co-ordinator Pippa Tabone said cancer didn't stop for rain and neither would the event.

Relay for Life will take place on the weekend of May 23 and 24, when teams of 10-15 people will take turns walking, skipping or running around the main arena to honour the lives of people touched by cancer.

The event has a festival atmosphere, with food stalls, live bands and plenty of entertainment on offer.
