Popular camping area open in time for school holidays

THE popular Platypus Flat camping area in Nymboi-Binderay National Park, west of Coffs Harbour, has re-opened in time for the July school holidays.

This follows an enormous amount of flood repair work.

Restrictions in other areas still apply.

National Parks and Wildlife Service Dorrigo Plateau area manager Janelle Brooks said after several months of being closed due to extensive flood damage, it was great to see the camping area re-opened.

"Staff have worked hard at Platypus Flat to be ready for the July school holidays," Ms Brooks said.

"They have removed more than 1200 cubic metres of sand, gravel and other flood debris.

"Camping at the Cod Hole will remain closed for some time as work continues on the large amount of flood damage there.

"Moonpar Forest Way remains closed near Bostobrick.

"A bridge was washed away outside the park, so access to Platypus Flat is only possible via Cascade.

"People intending to visit over the school holidays are advised to check the website.

"Or they can contact the NPWS Dorrigo Plateau Area office.

"People should telephone 6657 2309 for the very latest information before they leave home."
