Policing is on the move in Coffs Harbour
COFFS Harbour police today embark on a new era in law enforcement, starting operations inside the new police station at the new $74 million Coffs Harbour Justice precinct.
Officers begin shifts at 6am inside the state of the art building on the corner of Beryl St and the Pacific Hwy.
The dilapidated former police station has been vacated and in time will be sold by the State Government.
Coffs Clarence Commander, Superintendent Mark Holahan said 100 of the command's 183 officers would be based at the new station and officers from Grafton would visit for training and briefings.
"It will boost morale significantly leaving where we are now," Supt. Holahan said.
"After more than 40 years in the one location and to come to this location, the biggest thing people who work in this environment will notice is space."

The double-storey police station stands next to the five-storey courthouse that will open in January.
It stands in stark contrast to the aging former police station that Supt Holahan said was in a state of disrepair.
"The old station itself had well and truly reached its use-by date," he said.
"A house that was previously for a lock-up keeper was used for operational purposes and then for store rooms.
"We had moved demountables in at different times and those buildings leaked, and the station itself was in need of constant repair.
"It's been a bit hard to pack up in excess of 40 years of history, memories and policing operations and move those forward, but it all starts today.
"As of today our phone numbers will change. The old station number will no longer be in existence, but that won't affect calls to 000 or Crimestoppers."
The new Coffs Harbour Police Station number is 6691 0799.
