Police seek men who may have witnessed fatal assault
POLICE investigating the death of a Coffs Harbour man are appealing for public help to locate two men who may have witnessed a fatal assault.
Coffs Harbour police were called to the intersection of Edgar and Collingwood streets at the Coffs Harbour Jetty on October 28 about 4.45pm following reports of an altercation.
Police believe a 50-year-old man was involved in an argument with three people, who were allegedly armed with a metal bar and a piece of wood.
It's alleged the man was assaulted before the trio left the area.
Emergency services arrived a short time later and the injured man was taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital.
He was later airlifted to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, however the man died in hospital on Tuesday, October 30.
Three people have since been charged in relation to his death.
Coffs Clarence Crime Manager Detective Inspector Cameron Lindsay said the men depicted in security footage may be able to assist with information surrounding the circumstances leading up to the 50-year-old's death.
"We are hoping these people will be able to contact us and tell our detectives what they might have seen," Inspector Lindsay said.
"The first man depicted in the footage is described as being 18-20 years and with short brown hair.
"He was wearing a white t-shirt with a blue motif.
"The second man is described as being 60-65 years and of large build with receding grey hair.
"He was wearing a grey t-shirt, dark shorts and thongs," he said.
