WHILE most people were trying to keep cool on Sunday, the finest cricketing talents from across the North Coast were battling it out for the interdistrict crown.
In the under-16s Lower Clarence were sent into bat first by Coffs Harbour and made the most of their opportunity, with openers Coby Tabor (49) and Colby Vallette (31) steering their side to a total of 162.
In reply Coffs couldn't get any momentum, falling to be all out for 87.
Kai Watterson was the chief destroyer with 3/14.
On the field alongside them at Richardson Park the under-12 sides from Coffs and Valleys were locked in battle.
Coffs won the toss and elected to bat in warm conditions as opener Faith Wear (21) and second drop Patrick Rose (28) dug in at the crease. Some late hitting from James Watson (18 not out) meant Coffs finished on 6/124 after 40 overs.
With Coffs striking twice early with the ball it looked like game on, but Valleys' batsmen Quinn Cooper (52 not out) and Taylor Gilbert (56 not out) combined to clinch victory for their side with 10 overs to spare.
Down at Phillip Hughes Oval in Macksville, Coffs Harbour clinched the under-14 crown over Valleys thanks to a great batting display from Toby Bailey (74) and Beau Guthrie (54).
