Oztag wraps up another season

COFFS Harbour Oztag has wrapped up another great summer series with the annual grand finals.

A great standard of exciting play was provided by all teams involved.

Conditions remained fine for the first night, but by the second the rain tumbled down in bucket-loads.

It seems apt that the competition ended with rain, considering the amount of disruptions to the entire season.

Organisers thanked all teams – and not just those that made it to the finals – for participating over the summer and everybody is welcome back for the winter competition.

In the mixed grades there were the usual upsets and some unexpected teams made it to the finals.

A-grade began with Chicken Butchery defeating Red Electrical 9-7.

Karissa Beaton and Rob Partridge played an important part for Red Electrical, while Peter Downes and Lucas Grace helped Chicken Butchery to the win.

The upsets arrived in B-grade, when One Agency defeated Ninjas 10-7.

Dekiah Craigie scored four points for Ninjas but One Agency’s Hattie Watson and Paul Butcher outscored the Ninjas for a great win.

Then, in C-grade, Bluebottles and Beachbodies Health Club fought it out, with Bluebottles winning 13-8.

Angela Keighran scored two tries for Bluebottles and Aimee Barwick and Diana Walker both scored for Beachbodies.

Next up were the men’s grades, all played in water.

The main event went to Coffs City Financial Services, which defeated three-time premier Hertz Hire 5-1.

These teams have battled it out over the past few seasons, with CCFS finally proving too good in the wet.

Madison Williams and Sean Wiffen scored all their team’s points and Brendan Meyers crossed for Hertz’s only try.

In B-grade, Bacon notched its third premiership, defeating Wats Happened 2-1 in a close game, with Brendan Robin scoring the try for the runner-up.
