Ogier sets the early pace

VOLKSWAGEN'S Sebastien Ogier set the pace on the opening test of Coates Hire Rally Australia.

Ogier held off teammate Andreas Mikkelsen by 4.4secs, with Citroen's Kris Meeke 1.2secs behind.

Behind the top three, Jari-Matti Latvala reported brake problems in his Polo R.

"They were very soft and I didn't have any confidence," Latvala said.

Mads Ostberg dropped time after overshooting a corner.

"The car understeered and I couldn't get into the corner. I had to turn around," Ostberg said.

Thierry Neuville had a lucky escape.

"I had a big, big landing on the nose when the rear kicked up at a bump in sixth gear," he said.

Robert Kubica spun out and Hayden Paddon had a brush with undergrowth.
