New scholarships to help exchange students overseas
NEW exchange scholarships are available to help high school students embark on exchange programs overseas.
Not-for-profit company Student Exchange Australia New Zealand has created 2 new Volunteer and Community Involvement Scholarships to support students during their exchange programs.
The scholarships aim to recognise and reward school students who are actively contributing to their community and making a difference to the people around them.
Student Exchange Australia are proud to offer the new Volunteer and Community Involvement Scholarships, bringing the total number of scholarships to 13.
The organisation also offer are three Language Scholarships, two International Affairs Scholarships, two Indigenous Scholarships, three Digital Video Scholarships and two Volunteer and Community Involvement Scholarships.
Receiving an Indigenous Scholarship was a "life-changing" experience for Coffs Harbour local Olivia Philip, who returned home in January after a six-month exchange to Wichita Falls, Texas, in the United States.
Olivia forged strong friendships and immersed herself into the culture and community of Wichita Falls.
"I couldn't even explain how thankful I am to have been awarded the scholarship, as the exchange most certainly has changed my life and me personally also," she said.
"It has given me so much motivation to do well in school and save up my earnings from my part-time job so that I can go back again.
"I am so much more confident in myself, way more independent and I now know that when I put my mind to something, I am more than capable of achieving my goals."
The richness of Olivia's experience is highlighted by her recent trip back to the US to attend a prom with her friends she made during her exchange.
Applications for the Volunteer and Community Involvement Scholarships close on October 31.
