NAB Challenge victories for Swans and Blues
SYDNEY and Fremantle both came away from their NAB Challenge at Drummoyne Oval with their pride intact, although star Dockers forward Michael Walters faces a nervous wait after being reported for striking Craig Bird during the third quarter.
In what was the AFL's first official pride game to celebrate sexual equality, the 50m arcs, goal pads and umpire's flags were painted in rainbow colours.
The Swans, who had 17 members of last year's grand final side playing, ran out nine-point winners, 1.7.14 (65) to 1.6.11 (56). Midfielders Luke Parker and Josh Kennedy were the stars, while Lance Franklin was kept to six touches and a goal before being subbed out at three-quarter time.
In yesterday's other match, Carlton led throughout to beat arch-rival Collingwood by seven points in Bendigo, 1.9.8 (71) to 1.7.13 (64). Chris Yarran was the star for the Blues, picking up 21 touches from half-back.
