Muttonbird and Big Banana high on NSW Ultimate Bucket List

FOUR of the region's best features are included on the NSW Ultimate Bucket List of 100 things to do before you die, released by leading tour and attractions provider Experience Oz.

Enjoying the wildlife and scenery at Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve is rated the Coffs Coast's best feature, coming in at number 60 on the list.

It's followed by walking the boardwalk at Urunga (65), exploring Dorrigo National Park (73) and posing with the Big Banana in the background (91).

Somewhat surprising, the scenic Waterfall Way connecting the beach to the bush comes in at 40 but only for the drive "near Armidale" which is certain to cause consternation in the ranks of proud residents of the Bellinger Valley and Dorrigo Plateau.

Compiled from years of customer feedback, staff input and database polling, the NSW Ultimate Bucket List covers experiences in larger urban centres as well as numerous hidden gems in the regions.

Experience Oz digital manager Matt Hobbs said the Big Banana was listed due to its being "the most well-known of Australia's 'big' inanimate landmarks."

"Also, its mixture of sub-attractions at the one location makes it an ideal spot to visit for those with families," Matt said.

"Muttonbird Island was cited for 'providing a gorgeous scenic return for minimal effort' and 'the panorama of Coffs Harbour, its pristine beachfront and the fringing mountain ranges in the distance.'

"The list is a great opportunity to highlight some of the lesser-known wonders of NSW for the local, regional and domestic tourism market to experience.

"We hope it will inspire people to get outside the cities and explore."
