MP Torbay believed to be in hiding in Coffs after ICAC raid
FORMER Northern Tablelands MP Richard Torbay was believed to be lying low at a property near Coffs Harbour today as ICAC officers reportedly performed a search of his Armidale home this morning.
Mr Torbay had been slated to stand against New England MP Tony Windsor in this year's Federal election but was disendorsed by the Nationals after links to Labor Party heavyweight Eddie Obeid were referred to the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
Mr Torbay cited family reasons for his shock resignation from state parliament and as chancellor of the University of New England last week but hasn't commented further since.
Coffs Harbour MP Andrew Fraser last week described Mr Torbay as having a reputation for being a "media tart".
The ICAC has declined to comment on the Armidale raid publicly.
Queensland Senator Barnaby Joyce has voiced his interest in running for the New England seat in Mr Torbay's absence.
