Meeke sets the pace during Rally Australia qualifying
NORTHERN Ireland's Kris Meeke proved the gun driver during today's Rally Australia qualifying.
The Citroen DS3 WRC driver won the first choice of road position for tomorrow's opening day of the rally.
Meeke set the pace through the 5.54km Bucca stage in 2 mins 39 secs.
He took a 0.336 second advantage over Volkswagen's WRC championship leader Frenchman Sebastien Ogier.
Qatar World Rally Team's Thierry Neuville of Belgium finished third.
"It's all about road position here, and that was perfect for me," Meeke told wrc.com.
"It's not like Finland because this stage is new for everyone. It's a level playing field and I knew that I could deliver given a clean run."
The rally's first stage, the Coffs Super Special, starts at 6.30pm.
