Mater Christi residents donate beds for the homeless
IT’S not everyday you see how your donation will help someone in need.
A group of Mater Christi residents were given this rare opportunity earlier this week.
Coffs Harbour Salvation Army major Russell Grice visited the nursing home to demonstrate how the camp beds, donated for the homeless, worked.
The idea to help the homeless began when resident Nell Boswell read an article about homelessness in the area.
“After that ... I felt like it was good to do something like that for people who have nothing,” she said.
The nursing home ran numerous fundraisers for a single camp bed.
When the supplier discovered the purchase was for charity they provided three other beds for Mater Christi to donate.
Seeing the outcome of the nursing home’s fundraising efforts was a treat for Ms Boswell, who hopes to run another drive to donate beds to the homeless in the future.
