Master of strings to headline festival

DASHING young Swedish classical guitarist and composer Johannes Möller has captivated audiences across the world with charismatic and soulful performances.

His solo performance in Coffs Harbour next month is being co-presented by the Music Society as the first concert in their subscription series and will feature his own works, as well as a selection of well known classical pieces.

Adam Miller is an extraordinary Australian jazz, blues and improvisational guitarist who has made his mark internationally and performed with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, Les Paul, Martin Taylor and many more.

He is young and inspiring and is set to attract a large amount of young local guitarists to his concert and workshops, as well as doing a special workshop for high school students.

Matthew Marshall is considered one of New Zealand's finest guitarists, specialising in experimental, improvisational and classical guitar.

He is currently Professor of Music at Southern Cross University in Lismore and will be directing the Festival Guitar Orchestra, made up of students and guitarists from across the region, as well as conducting an experimental workshop and concerts.

Workshops by each soloist will be offered to all guitar lovers, giving students insight and inspiration in all areas of guitar playing.

Solo concerts given by each artist will be followed by a grand festival concert featuring the guitar orchestra, the soloists, conservatorium tutors and the conservatorium's academy, rounded off by a fun jam session on the Sunday. A full calendar can be viewed on the conservatorium's website.

The cost for inclusion in the guitar festival is $45, or free with a festival pass.

The guitar orchestra will rehearse on Saturday and Sunday before performing alongside the soloists and conservatorium tutors at the grand festival concert.

Coffs Harbour is set to become a guitar mecca, with the launch of the Coffs Harbour Guitar Festival from June 5-7.
Presented by the Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium in collaboration with the Coffs Harbour Music Society and Southern Cross University, the festival will feature three international soloists in concerts and workshops throughout the weekend.
