Charges over Nambucca stabbing

TWO men have been charged after a man was wounded during an alleged stabbing at Nambucca Heads  yesterday.

Police were called to Bowra St after reports of a brawl on Wednesday about 11am.   

Police allege a 24-year-old man was involved in an argument with the passenger of a vehicle, before stabbing the 26-year-old male passenger in the arm, knee and ankle with a knife while he was still in the car.

The passenger fought back and was then allegedly set upon by a 30-year-old man, who was walking nearby.

Detectives from Nambucca Heads arrived and attempted to arrest the 24-year-old man.

However a number of people, including the 30-year-old man, allegedly attempted to free him from police custody.

After a struggle in which police used OC spray, the 24-year-old and 30-year-old men were arrested and taken to Nambucca Heads Police Station.

The 24-year-old man was charged with:

- Wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm;
- Reckless wounding;
- Use offensive language in/near public place/school;
- Carry cutting weapon upon apprehension;
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

The 30-year-old man was charged with:

- More than three people use violence cause fear;
- Resist officer in execution of duty;
- Wilfully obstruct officer in execution of duty.

The 24-year-old man was refused bail and will appear before Port Macquarie Local Court today,

The 30-year-old man was granted conditional bail and will appear before Macksville Local Court on October 19.
