Man busted with concealed weapon at Mackay airport
A MACKAY man was “embarrassed” to be in court after airport security busted him with a concealed weapon.
Jason Michael Thomas said he was unaware carrying a credit card flick knife was illegal until he was pulled up at Mackay Airport.
Mackay Magistrates Court heard he told police he had been gifted the knife by a friend a few years ago and used it to open boxes at work.
Representing himself in court, the 48 year old pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing a weapon on October 9 this year.
“I’m just embarrassed to be here,” Thomas said.
“I only realised it was an illegal item when I walked into the security area.”
The court heard Thomas had no criminal history. He was fined $250 and a conviction was not recorded.
