Man busted with concealed weapon at Mackay airport

A MACKAY man was “embarrassed” to be in court after airport security busted him with a concealed weapon.

Jason Michael Thomas said he was unaware carrying a credit card flick knife was illegal until he was pulled up at Mackay Airport.

Mackay Magistrates Court heard he told police he had been gifted the knife by a friend a few years ago and used it to open boxes at work.

Representing himself in court, the 48 year old pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing a weapon on October 9 this year.

“I’m just embarrassed to be here,” Thomas said.

“I only realised it was an illegal item when I walked into the security area.”

The court heard Thomas had no criminal history. He was fined $250 and a conviction was not recorded.
