M-Sport World Rally Team leader happy to grab sixth position

M-SPORT World Rally team driver Ott Tanak is thrilled to be holding down a top 10 position at the end of Saturday's morning stage through the Nambucca Valley.

The Estonian proved his outstanding 2014 debut on the Coffs Coast was no fluke and he and co-driver Raigo Molder are sitting in sixth place, 29-6 seconds behind current leader Kris Meeke.

"It's been a good morning for us with a third and second fastest time," Tanak said.

"It was difficult to be 100% confident as I have never driven these stages at high speed and there were quite a few surprises along the way.

"We've made quite a lot of changes in the notes to improve that and we're feeling good for the afternoon loop.

"The changes that we made to the car last night have really improved the handling and I'm feeling a lot more confident."

Team mates Elfyn Evans and Daniel Barritt are currently in ninth position in a Ford Fiesta RS.

"The feeling was a bit better today," Evans said.

"I felt I could commit a lot more in the first half of the long SS9 but we struggled to get back into the rhythm after the twisty section," Evans said.

"The car was moving around quite a lot but overall it was a better feeling for sure.

"We need to keep that up this afternoon and see if we can find some further improvements."
