Lost your car at Splendour? There's an app to help with that
IN a world first, Splendour in the Grass 2019 will offer a new digital feature that will have millenials salivating and will make baby boomers roll their eyes in disbelief: augmented reality, or as they call it, SplendAR.
The premise is simple: through the Splendour in the Grass app, music fans will be able to look through their phones using their camera, and the screen will offer extra information available to them - where they parked their car and where their tent is, who is playing at the Amphitheatre next and where the closest toilets are.
In a world first, Splendour in the Grass partnered with Augmented Reality firm tagSpace to offer a site-wide AR experience for festival-goers.
Revellers will be able to navigate North Byron Parklands using AR tags that point to and identify key locations around the festival site. It will include stages, bars, places to eat, water refill stations, loos and places to dance.
Young ones will be able to create their own personal place makers to drop wherever they like.
Between this and Festival Mode for Tinder, mobile chargers and phone networks will be working overtime at the festival, to be held July 9 to 21 at North Byron Parklands.
How to get it
Don't be like us, grumpily complaining we could not see it in our Splendour app.
If you don't currently have the Splendour in the Grass app, you can get it for free and it will prompt you to set up AR and may require to download a secondary app, discovAR, to activate SplendAR.
If you do have the app, you will need to refresh it. We found it was easier to delete it and re-upload it. It's a free and quick option.
Once you have updated your app, the AR feature will tell you how long until the festival and how far you are from the site if you face the phone in the correct direction.
