Surat child dies in tragic motorbike accident

SALLY and Josh Broadhead are preparing for life without their seven-year-old son Jake, who was tragically taken from them in a motorbike accident in Surat.

An experience no parent ever wants to face, the Broadheads are leaning on the Surat community to survive this heartbreak.

Jake's five-year-old brother George said: "He was the best big brother."

The distraught parents remember their little Jakey as a "happy go lucky boy" who enjoyed everything outdoors.

"He was my little shadow," Josh said.

"Anything I liked, he loved."

When Jake wasn't catching fish with his dad he was out riding his motorbike.

Sally said he was always passionate about what he did and had such a love for life.

"He had a big heart and was so kind," she said.

"He wouldn't give up on anything he did, even that day, he fought to the end."

Although Jake loved finishing school to go play outside, he always tried his hardest in class.

"He didn't like getting detention," George said.

Sally and George made sure they handed in Jake's homework this week because "he would have hated it being late".

Jake was farewelled in Surat yesterday with the community joining together to pay tribute. Donations are being collected by Surat Post Office for those wanting to help the Broadheads.
