Jackman announces world tour
Australia's favourite son Hugh Jackman has announced he will embark on a world arena tour, performing songs from his movie hit The Greatest Showman and musicals such as Les Miserables, The Boy From Oz, and Oklahoma!.
"This is a dream come true for me," Jackman said during an appearance on the Today Show in the US.
"I'm singing, I'm dancing, I'm telling stories. I'm on the back nine of my life now, and this is about the front nine, the good parts of it, anyway."
The show, which will feature a 26-piece orchestra, as well as 30 singers and dancers, is scheduled to kick off mid next year and will travel throughout Europe and the US, before ending with shows in Australia and New Zealand.
Jackman will play arenas on the tour, including a stop at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York.
Keala Settle, who played the Bearded Lady in Jackman's monster silver screen hit, The Greatest Showman will also join the star "for a bunch" of dates.
The Greatest Showman has grossed $A600 million worldwide and it's soundtrack topped the charts in several countries including the US, Australia, the UK and Japan. The album also reached number one on iTunes in over 77 countries.
As for the set list, it was a pretty simple selection for Jackman. "I picked all of my favourite songs, and you'll all sit through it," the Aussie star joked on Today.
"But it's a mixed bag."
Jackman has been a star across Broadway and film; he won a Tony award in 2004 for his performance in the musical The Boy From Oz and starred in Baz Luhrmann's Australia alongside his good friend Nicole Kidman.
His performance as Jean Valjean in the 2012 film version of Les Misérables won him a Golden Globe and Academy Award and BAFTA nominations.
Jackman is currently starring in the film, The Frontrunner, and his performance as disgraced former US presidential candidate Gary Hart has been widely acclaimed.
