Hoon rampage angers business owners

DEFIANT hoons have left a trail of burnouts and donuts in an industrial area of Coffs Harbour causing anger among business owners in the area.

A mass of rubber was molded onto the southern end of High Tech Dr sometime overnight on Saturday.

One business owner - who did not want to be named publicly - told The Advocate he discovered the destructive display after returning to work from the Christmas break.

"There a lot businesses in the area and it just makes the street look terrible for our customers," he said.

The area is known to have been targeted in similar incidents in the past.

"When the damage is done it's the business owners who are left cleaning it all up," the business owner said

"People hear the noise (of the cars) but because it's away from homes they must think they can get away with it.

"I'm worried that it's only a matter of time before someone get hurts."

Coffs Clarence Crime Manager Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said the incident was yet to be reported to police.

"Police encourage residents to take an active interest in protecting the community by contacting police before or during a crime occurring," Inspector Jameson said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
