Home invaders threaten elderly couple with tomato stakes

AN ELDERLY couple has told police of how they were threatened inside their home by a group of thieves armed with sharpened tomato stakes. 

The alleged home invasion reportedly happened in Kempsey on Friday night.

Police said five men and a woman allegedly entered the Pacific Highway home around 10.30pm.  

The residents a man, 77, and his wife, 60, were threatened by the group, who ransacked the home.

Police said the thieves then fled the scene in the couple's car after taking cash and items of property.

The vehicle was later found burnt out in South Kempsey. 

The group were described as being Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance.
