Highway upgrade prompts free mulch

GARDENERS can get their hands on free mulch this month thanks to the works on the Nambucca Heads to Urunga upgrade of the Pacific Hwy.

Federal Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker said excess mulch from vegetation removal will be offered free in bulk to the community.

"Where possible, mulch is re-used across the project but we are encouraging the community to put excess material to good use," Mr Hartsuyker said.

"Mulch was made available in small quantities in November and there is now an opportunity for people to collect in bulk using heavy vehicles."

Gardeners will need to organise transport at their own expense and for safety reasons, light vehicles and box trailers won't be allowed onto the project site.

Low grade, pasteurised raw mulch will be available from 7525 Pacific Hwy at Valla from 7am to 3pm on Saturday, February 13 and Saturday, February 20.

Access for collections will be from Burkes Lane via East West Rd.

All EPA requirements must also be followed by those collecting mulch.
