Josh taking the trail from Coffs to Hollywood

FORMER Coffs Harbour local Josh Morton is set to hit the big time in Hollywood, starring alongside Twilight and Hercules star Kellan Lutz in a new Australian sci-fi film, SFv1.

Directed by renowned Australian director Shane Abbess, SFv1 promises to bring a breath of fresh air to the Australian film industry.

After starring in a handful of Australian short films, Josh said securing his big role had been a long time coming after years of "push and grind" pursuing an acting career in Sydney.

"I was really proud of myself, I was really excited of course but more proud about it," he said.

"It's such a perfect mini break."

Josh joins popular Twilight actor Kellan in a star-studded cast including some of Australia's best Hollywood talent including Rachel Griffiths, Daniel McPherson and Isabelle Lucas.

Kellan isn't the type to get caught up in his fame, with Josh describing the Hollywood heart-throb as a "cool bloke" who's like one of the boys.

"I was expecting that he might be a bit fake or what not just because he's been successful from a very young age," Josh said.

"He was a really humble, great, just a nice guy, totally interested in everyone.

"I'm really excited to get on set with him."

Raised in Coffs Harbour, Josh, 26, moved to Sydney after finishing high school at St John Paul College to pursue a career in acting.

Josh developed a passion for acting from a young age and found a mentor in Hollywood great and Coffs Coast resident Jack Thompson after forging a friendship with his son and actor Billy Thompson.

"I used to meet up with him at the gym and he'd always tell me about his ideas and experiences and that was encouraging," Josh said.

"You never really understand it until you find a good mentor, someone who knows the industry."

Josh starts filming next month in Sydney.
