Haworth heroics help Colts to win against Dorrigo

AN INCREDIBLE performance from Craig Haworth has given Park Beach Bowling Club Colts victory in its one day clash against Dorrigo at Rowe oval.

A knock of 87 with the bat followed by two wickets with the ball saw Haworth the man of the hour as Colts resumed their pre Christmas form with another impressive win.

It was another tough defeat for Dorrigo who are still yet to taste victory this season

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Colts improved on a slow start when Haworth and Ben Sims arrived at the crease.

A late cameo innings of 36 from Adam Hudson added further pain on Dorrigo as Colts set a tough total of 221.

Three wickets to Andrew Ellis was the highlight of the Dorrigo bowling attack while Justin Gilbert and Darcy Balenzano both chipped in with two apiece.

The Dorrigo run chase began in tumultuous fashion with openers Louie Balenzano and Andrew Ellis falling cheaply.

A 63 run stand from captain Justin Gilbert and Dylan Edwards helped temporarily revive the Dorrigo innings however when Gilbert fell for 30 the middle order began to collapse.

Matt Rose was the main destroyer for Colts with a haul of three wickets while Haworth and Zach Symons took two.

It proved to be too much of a run chase for the home side falling well short of the 228 total after being bowled out for only 148.

In Saturday's other game Sawtell cruised to an easy win against Plantation Diggers at Richardson Park.

Setting a total of 165, Sawtell never looked challenged as they cleaned up Diggers for only 138.

Daniel Palin and David Langford-Smith were deadly with the ball taking a combined total of seven wickets.

The win sees Sawtell extend its lead at the top of the competition while Diggers remains in third.
