Harvey leads Kangaroos to victory

IT WAS left to veteran North Melbourne midfielder Brent Harvey to teach these new Dogs some old tricks as the Kangaroos ran out 29-point winners at Etihad Stadium last night.

Playing his 364th game, the 35-year-old turned it on in the second half after a lacklustre display by both teams in the first two quarters, which saw them kick just two goals each.

Harvey (pictured) went on to boot three goals, one in the third term and two early in the last, and gather 25 disposals to be best on ground as the Kangaroos bounced back from their first-round loss to Essendon to win 12.11 (83) to 8.6 (54).

The Roos had held a two-point lead at the main break (17-15) before extending their advantage to 10 going into the last change. In his second game for the club, Nick Dal Santo was also a standout for the winners, collecting 32 touches, while Scott Thompson controlled the defence.

Robert Murphy (25 touches) and Luke Dahlhaus (25) were among the best for the Western Bulldogs, who remain without a win after the opening round loss to the West Coast Eagles.
