A TENT city is set to become home to hundreds of happy campers at the Coffs Coast Sports and Leisure Park this weekend as participants in the annual Cancer Council Relay for Life step out for a cure.

The relay's opening ceremony at 10am on Saturday will feature a first lap lead by cancer survivors wearing purple sashes and carers wearing white - so others can honour their fight.

Tomorrow night, as the sun sets, the heart and soul of the event - the candlelight ceremony - will honour all those who have succumbed to cancer and those who cared for them.

In between and through the night there will a feast of activities and entertainment to keep walkers awake and amused.

Younger walkers will be well catered for with SandWizard and Plasterkraze, a jumping castle, bouncy slide, gladiator challenges and a reptile show. The mascot and fancy dress races will once again be a relay highlight.

Add in performances by bootscooters, clubs, dance troupes, drummers and a variety of singers and bands, and the event, which concludes at 10am on Sunday, is set to be one to remember.

Even if you can't spare the time to take part, visitors are particularly welcome to drop in and share the Relay for Life spirit.
