Expert tips for the Pink Silks raceday

By Neil Evans

Pink Silks Annual Race Day from 11.30am

Track Projected Good 4 and Rail out 3m from 1000m to 350m into a cut/away and true the remainder so on or near the pace early before levelling out

Race 1 @ 1.30pm - INSURANCE ADVISERNET 2YO MAIDEN PLATE (805m) - Set Weights & apprentices can claim:

Blink and you'll miss it as nearly all first starters lock horns over the scamper trip to get us underway.

Keen on Port Macquarie filly 4. CROWNED EMPRESS (Hallowed Crown x Absolute Empress by Conatus) who looks ready to go cruising through the line under a hold in a home track trial where the others were under a lot more pressure, and dam was a BM 70 metro winner.

DANGERS: Wauchope filly 7. Slice Of Heaven (Rubick x Heavensentme by Holy Roman Emperor) won that same trial at Port Macquarie, but was pushed out all the way to the line; while rival Port filly 8. Xenanic (Nicconi x Xena by Choisir) was the third member of the trio locking horns in that trial, but didn't attack the line like the others. Taree filly 5. Outreach Belle is the only one with race experience, out the back and outclassed in stronger spring company on debut at Randwick, and is a big market watch resuming.

My Betting Attack: Back Crown Empress to win

Winner was No.9, Ekibuuka owned by Brett Dodson and ridden by Alison Threadwell for Race no 6, Wayne Glenn Pink Silks Cup at the Coffs Harbour Race Course.

Race 2 @ 2.05pm - THE BAYRANGE GROUP 3YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1005m) - Set weights & apprentices can claim:

Bigger and more open field for some useful sprinters on the rise, but improving 3YO Gold Coast gelding 9. ZEELUCK gets his chance to break through fourth-up in his second prep. Has fought on okay from the front in his last two at Murwillumbah, and can peak here back in trip.

DANGERS: Grafton 4YO gelding 1. Don't Cry Mama made a sound debut finishing off nicely at the Gold Coast when specked at double figure odds, and draws to find a similar spot over slightly longer trip, and set weight conditions suit. Local 5YO gelding 3. Gus Lightning can really mix his runs, but has been freshened up off a nice closing effort at Grafton, and top country rider goes on. Watch the market at big odds around 3YO local filly and first starter 14. Our Cath (Fighting Sun x Northern Cath by Desert King) who has trialled okay for leading stable.

My Betting Attack: Back Zeeluck to win and quinella 1 and 9

Race 3 @ 2.40pm - THE GLENN FAMILY MAIDEN HCP (1305m) - Min weight 55kg & apprentices can claim:

Tricky and good pressure race for the maidens, with a few hopes. Well bred 3YO Gold Coast filly 4. VAMPIRINA DIAMOND just needs her share of luck from a wide barrier to be right in the finish. Finished hard in a handy maiden on debut at Murwillumbah, and this looks a nice progressive race. Dam is by a Cox Plate winner, and won three from only five starts.

DANGERS: Local 5YO gelding 1. Money Travels came on okay second-up at Lismore after trailing the speed, and extra distance is a plus, but tough ask carting 59kg from a wide draw. Expect sharp improvement third-up with the blinkers on from 3YO Gold Coast-based filly 8. More Than Good who didn't run on at Murwillumbah after a fast finishing debut run at Grafton; while local mare 13. The Actress is showing steady improvement and gets a nice weight drop here, so include in the exotics.

My Betting Attack: Vampirina Diamond to win and box trifecta 1,4,8,13

Race 4 @ 3.15pm - J & K JARVIS RACING PINK SILKS F & M BM 58 HCP (1305m) - Min weight 54kg for fillies and mares, and apprentices can claim:

Another very even battle for the girls. Looks an ideal speed may and journey for fast improving local 3YO filly 9. DAZZLING CHARM who powered home to win second-up at Lismore, and draws to get a nice midfield trail and repeat the dose

DANGERS: Much touted 3YO Gold Coast filly 11. Diddly Dee has proved costly jumping favourite in all four runs this prep, but only saluted second-up at Quirindi. Has obviously ability for leading stable, and draws to get a soft run just behind the speed. Progressive 4YO local mare 3. Northern Wilderose has only been collared late in two runs back after travelling on speed, and draws ideally again to take up a commanding forward spot. Up sharply in weight, but trainer has removed the blinkers. Liked the 4YO Murwillumbah mare 12. Flying Pretty hit the line third-up at the Gold Coast, but will need some luck up in weight from a wide draw. Local 5YO mare 1. Shirazzle has been freshened, but weighted to her absolute best off a mixed prep so far. Found the line nicely last start at Grafton, and draws to get plenty of cover.

My Betting Attack: Dazzling Charm each way and trifecta 3,9,11/3,9,11/1,3,9,11,12

Race 5 @ 3.50pm - KEY EMPLOYMENT BM 58 HCP (1605m) - Min weight 54kg and apprentices can claim:

Tough and most open race on the program. Grafton 4YO mare 4. LILY OF CHINA is better than her two wins and one placing from 13 starts, and looked good finishing best in a Class 2 at Grafton two starts back. Not convinced the inside draw helps her pattern, but has far more scope than most of these, and with clear air from the turn will be charging into the finish.

DANGERS: Inverell 5YO gelding 5. Binnacle led all the way in a dominant Class 1 win two runs back before edged out at home in a Class 2 over this trip, and while this is a deeper race, draws to give a big sight down sharply in weight. Perennial run-on 5YO Port Macquarie gelding 3. Dangerous Dan finally returned to the winner's circle in a weaker race at Wauchope on Boxing Day, but hard fit is well capable of finishing over the top in this grade if there's enough speed on up front. Ballina 6YO mare 2. Serious Dancer picks and chooses when to perform, and rises sharply in trip also from a weaker race, but carries her lightest weight in a long time after jockey's 3kg claim; while 7YO Ballina gelding 11. My Cousin Rhett hasn't won for a long time, but last couple of efforts around this grade have been fair, and draws to get a cosy run.

My Betting Attack: Lily Of China each way and trifecta 3,4,5/2,3,4,5,11/2,3,4,5,11

Race 6 @4.25pm KOMATSU WAYNE GLENN PINK SILKS CUP (1205m) - Min weight 54kg and apprentices can claim:

Strong feature race of the day with a stack of chances. Port Macquarie 5YO gelding 6. THE DRAKE has the quality to win this third-up, and looks well treated at the weights. Flew home for a dominant first-up BM 66 win at Taree before blew his chance at the start in metro company at Eagle Farm, but has since trialled, and draws to get a handy run around midfield.

DANGERS: Improving 5YO Lismore gelding 4. Almas has been hitting the line from well back impressively all prep, and while this is short of an ideal distance, if he gets a good tempo to chase will be rocketing home. Talented 6YO local gelding 11. Northern Knight is slowly finding his feet in two sound runs back after 21 months off the scene. Still lightly raced, and may still need another run, but has never such a light weight, and will be running on.Don't under-estimate 7YO local gelding 7. Lawan who resumes off a near eight month break, and hasn't publicly trialled, but best runs have always been early in the prep, and draws to net nice cover back in the field and be saved for one late charge. Consistent 8YO local gelding 2. Waltzing Willie resumes with a solid fresh record, but has paid the price for consecutive wins in the Newmarket at Murwillumbah and BM 83 at Ballina last time in shooting up to 61kg. Conversely, rival 9YO home track gelding 5. Gunnaza gets in very well at the weight after rider's claim, and draws to get a lovely position just off the speed, but would need to find a length or two against some of these.

My Betting Attack: The Drake to win and first four 4,6,11/2,4,5,6,7,11/2,4,5,6,7,11/2,4,5,6,7,11

Race 7 @ 5pm PIER HOTEL C, G & E BM 58 HCP (1305m) - Min weight 54kg for colts, gelding & entires, and apprentices can claim:

The boys close us out, and very keen on 4YO Murwillumbah gelding 2. MALAWI GOLD second-up after a solid enough return this grade at Lismore when caught wide. Generally improves lengths after one run, and this isn't strong.

DANGERS: Gold Coast 4YO gelding 5. Shishaq has had two quiet trials for smart fresh stable ahead of his first run in more than four months. Has ability, and draws to get a nice run either in front or right behind the leader. The consistency of improving 4YO local gelding 7. Boyles was rewarded with a tough first-up Class 1 win here two weeks back beating Northern Wilderose who goes around earlier, so a handy form reference, but he's up in weight and drawn wider; while another one trained here, lightly raced 4YO gelding 8. Dollson resumed with an even Class 3 run at Port Macquarie, but won his only previous second-up start.

My Betting Attack: Malawi Gold to win and quinella 2 and 5
