Disaster funds to ease fire devastation
DEVASTATING fires that ripped through the state last weekend have left people with ruined homes, properties and a lot of cleaning up.
Earlier this week, disaster assistance for affected areas on the mid-north coast was announced to aid with the costs of cleaning up and restoring damaged areas.
"On Sunday, the fires around Kempsey and Port Macquarie spread quickly with little warning,” Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker said.
"In our area, the fires have caused significant damage to family properties.”
Two strike teams from the mid-north coast assisted with firefighting efforts at Wauchope, helping to save at least six properties in the area.
Mr Hartsuyker said the disaster assistance would go towards easing some of the suffering and ensure affected individuals, families and Kempsey and mid-north coast councils had the resources and support needed to recover from the impacts of the bushfires as quickly as possible.
The assistance includes help for eligible people whose homes or belongings have been damaged and support for local councils to help with the costs of cleaning up and restoring essential public assets.
