Crack bowlers eyeing off huge prize pool
SOME of Australia's premier lawn bowlers have taken to the greens at Park Beach Bowls Club to compete for a $33,000 prize pool at Coffs Harbour's premier event the Open Singles.
A field of 120 players have nominated to take part in the week-long event.
High-ranking players include Commonwealth Games silver medallist and recent Australian Open Singles title winner Ryan Bester and medal-winning Aussie great of the game Kelvin Kerkow.
"We have had a lot of great bowlers over the years come to this tournament and a lot of great bowlers throughout Australia have won this tournament," Park Beach bowls coordinator Paul Jopson said.
"It remains one of the premier tournaments in NSW and Australia.
"It's a big fortnight for the club and Coffs Harbour, starting with the open singles, which runs for five days.
"We could have over 400 bowlers coming to Coffs Harbour over the next fortnight," Jopson said.
The open singles run from today July 9th to July13, the ladies' masters pairs are from July 14-15, followed by the mixed pairs.
