Cr Knight holds strong lead in mayoral race
FIRST preference results indicate incumbent Denise Knight will be installed as Coffs Harbour City Council's mayor for a second term.
Cr Knight has marginally extended her lead in recent days, acquiring 28.26% of the 41,074 formal votes counted as of yesterday afternoon.
Former councillor Jan Strom is second to Cr Knight, holding 16.82% of the vote followed closely by councillor Keith Rhoades on 16.33% of ballots counted.
Speaking to The Advocate this week, returning officer for the Coffs Harbour region Cliff Mitchell said while Cr Knight's lead was strong, the race wasn't over yet.
He said mayoral candidates Jan Strom, Keith Rhoades, John Arkan and Sally Townley all had substantial counts that shouldn't be underestimated at this stage of the count.
The distribution of preferences count is currently under way.
