Online bookmaker considers Cowper a safe bet for Nationals

IF the bookmakers are any guide the race for Cowper in the upcoming Federal Election has already been run and won.

Sportsbet has National Party incumbent Luke Hartsuyker at the almost unbackable odds of $1.01 or 100-1 on in an old bookmaker's language.

There's only two other candidates who've nominated so far to run against Mr Hartsuyker but Sportsbets odds show any other candidate would be more chance of winning the seat than them.

Country Labor candidate Damian Wood is paying $16 to win the seat while Carol Vernon from the Greens is rated the rank outsider at $26.

Any other candidate, even though there isn't one at the moment, is rated a 10-1 shot of winning.

Local voters on the northern beaches have a closer race to watch when they vote.

Residents from Sapphire Beach and north are now part of the Page electorate, a seat that has long been considered a bellwether seat as it's one of the few country seats in NSW where Labor is usually competitive.

Sitting member Kevin Hogan is favoured to retain the seat for the Nationals but Sportsbet is paying $1.75 for that result.

The former member Janelle Saffin is running again and is rated a $2.30 chance of retaining the seat for Labor.

19-year-old Greens candidate Kudra Falla-Ricketts is a 10-1 chance according to the online bookmaker of winning the seat.

Any other, which includes Christian Democrats candidate Bethany McAlpine, is paying the juicy price of $26 should she or someone else claim an unlikely victory in Page.
