A STRONG performance by promising three-year-old filly Ultimate Dreamer at Grafton today will see trainer Jim Jarvis throw his hat into the ring for the $100,000 Country Championships Qualifier (1400m) at Grafton on March 6.
And if the daughter of Zariz can run up to expectations they'll be cheering wildly in the mountain township of Dorrigo.
Ultimate Dreamer is raced by an all Dorrigo syndicate headed by Garry Penfold.
"Tomorrow will be a tell-tale day," Jarvis said yesterday of the filly's assignment in the Book A Blues Brews & BBQ's March 6 Marquee Package Class 3 Hcp over 1415m.
"It's decision day whether we press forward or look to give the filly a break.
"The Championship has been our ultimate goal all along. We're nearly there but not quite."
The Northern Rivers Qualifying heat is a pre-curser to the $400,000 Country Championship Final (1400m) at Randwick on April 2.
The first two finishers in the Qualifying heat are guaranteed a spot in the Final.
Ultimate Dreamer is a filly packed with potential and the canny Jarvis has taken his time to nurture her ability.
"She's not a big hungry horse that you have to work hard to keep the weight off," Jarvis said.
"She's a dainty filly, not real big and still light. She's a typical three-year-old filly; one you would hope grows more as an older horse to compete at a higher level when she really fills out.
"I don't gallop her a lot and we've staggered her races with the Championships in mind.
"She's well at her peak now. She was probably there after her second run. It's been a matter of holding her there and that has a lot to do with the work patterns I apply.
"She's already done a fait bit this preparation. She's not indicated she's gone off, far from it. Her work's been no different. She's a filly that gives 100 per cent in her races."
Ultimate Dreamer has been in great form this campaign winning her past two starts at Coffs Harbour and Ballina.
The only blot on her form was a 5.8 lengths 10th to Miss Tripod at Taree three runs back. Jarvis said that run could easily be forgiven.
