Colts the underdogs

VETERAN PBBC Colts batsman Matt Rose believes the pressure is all on Sawtell when the top-of-the-table sides go head-to-head at Coffs Coast Sport and Leisure Park today.

While Colts have been a surprise packet this season, the Coffs cricket veteran is adamant Sawtell's incredible winning run makes them outright favourites.

"There is absolutely no pressure on us going into this game," Rowe said.

"Sawtell has the strongest side in the competition on paper and has been playing that way.

"All the expectation will be on Sawtell to win with ease, and we are happy for it to be like that.

"Our focus will be developing some consistency and playing the best cricket we can."

Today also heralds a return to two-day cricket following a run of one-day games.

"We don't mind playing either format of the game," Rose said.

"We just want to play as much cricket as possible each season and would love a back-to-back run of games."

Injury to Matt Francis and the possible absence of Trent Statham will make today's game harder.

"Fracca (Francis) has been doing it tough the past few weeks and is probably the first player to play as a specialist fielder because he isn't able to bowl or bat," Rose said.

"He'll want to have a crack at Sawtell but we might need to hold him back a bit."
