Colts take early premiership lead after CHDCA opening round

PARK Beach Bowling Club Colts sit on top of the table after the completion of Coffs Harbour District Cricket's opening round.

Colts too first innings points against Sawtell after the home side's 141 total fell 31 runs short of what was required.

Starting at 6/92, not out batsman Casey Arendarcikas fell without adding to the score and Chris Neal managed to put on an extra 10 runs before being clean bowled by Trent Statham.

Ben Andrews provided thrills with an unbeaten 31 but ran out of partners.

For Colts, evergreen Matt Francis could boast three maidens alongside his figures of 5/45 while Statham provided great support with 3/47.

Back in the middle the Colts top order proved difficult to remove with Matt Rose (310, Zac Symons (30) and Ian Slapp (28) helping push the total to 6/133 by the end of the session.

Meanwhile, the match at Fitzroy Oval was called off after a ground inspection.

Bellinger Valley spokesman Paul Balenzano said Friday's rain storms had left surface water around the field and an 11am meeting decided to abandon the fixture and declare a draw.

Bellingen and Plantation Diggers will share points.

Next Saturday is the start of a two-weekend round.

PBBC Colts host Plantation Diggers at Coffs Coast Sports and Leisure Park while it will be Bellinger Valley's home match against Sawtell at Brelsford Park.

The Valley side will share matches this summer between the Coffs Harbour venue and Rowe Oval in Dorrigo.
