Coffs will have a new Mayor
THE final result won't be known until late this afternoon but one thing that is known is Coffs Harbour will have a new mayor for the next four years.
The three horse race for mayor between Keith Rhoades, Denise Knight and John Arkan is now down to two and Cr Rhoades is not one of them.
After the preferences for Rod Degens were counted, it was Cr Rhoades who had the lowest vote total of the three remaining candidates, therefore the next one to be knocked out of the mayoral race.
As it stands Cr Arkan leads Cr Knight by 657 votes before the preferences of the now former mayor are distributed.
Cr Rhoades earned enough votes on the council ballot sheets to remain a councillor but he will no longer be sitting front and centre in the chamber when councillors gather for their fortnightly meetings.
He asked those who voted for him to place a second preference for Cr Knight on his mayoral ballot sheets and this may prove vital in finally deciding who will be Mayor.
