Coffs Harbour is top rally city

COFFS Harbour has been rebranded the Australian rally-driving capital, with news a round of the FIA World Rally Championships will return next year.

Gearing up for Rally Australia 2013, the city will also play host to the Bosch Australian Rally Championship and the Coffs Coast Forest Rally in October this year.

After a hugely successful world championship round last year, Rally Australia organisers this week confirmed they'd signed a contract with the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the world motorsport governing body, to see the WRC return.

Rally Australia chairman Ben Rainsford was hopeful of Australia staging the last round of the season, but a date on the 13-round calendar was yet to be set.

Mr Rainsford said the Rally Australia contract had been forwarded to senior management at the FIA for presentation to the World Motor Sport Council and setting of the date would depend on decisions over the freighting of cars to Australia.

"We're delighted to have a place on the 2013 calendar, but there is still plenty of work ahead before we can formally confirm the date and logistics for the event," he said.
