Coffs Coast's amateur chefs to the fore for 'Show Us Ya Dish'

PARKES may have 'The Dish' but Coffs proudly has 'Show Us Ya Dish'.

Yes, the fun, alfresco cooking competition for amateur chefs is back by popular demand for 2013.

"Now in its fourth year, 'Show Us Ya Dish' aims to engage the community in enjoying local and seasonal produce and eating fresh healthy meals," Growers Market coordinator, Jan Rooney, said.

"We are also once again very lucky to have such wonderful support from Kenwood to supply top prizes for the competition. I can't wait to see all the yummy entries. Best of all, I can't wait to sample them."

'Show Us Ya Dish' pits amateur cooks on the Coffs Coast against each other to develop fantastic dishes using fresh local produce. Entrants are asked to cook their signature dish and upload an image to the 'Show Us Ya Dish' competition page on the Coffs Coast Growers Market Facebook page.

The community will then vote on their favourite dishes with the top three cooks heading into the open-air, live cook-off at the Growers Market on Thursday, November 7. Contestants can only use local produce provided from the Growers Market in the dishes they prepare for the cook-off and have a real challenge cooking in an outdoor environment to impress the panel of judges. Entries are now open until October 24 with voting beginning on October 25.

'Show Us Ya Dish' is part of the Sustainable Living Festival 2013. This year's festival fun will kick off on Sunday, November 3, with the annual Botanica Spring Fair at the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden, which will celebrate all things sustainable through talks, children's events, demonstrations, stalls, music and great local food.
