Bin fishing gear, it kills sea life

DOLPHIN Marine Magic's Seal The Loop program is working successfully in Coffs Harbour to keep fishing line out of the water and help save our local marine life.

New bins at the Jetty boat ramp are proving particularly popular with fishers keen to do the right thing for the marine environment.

DMM CEO Paige Sinclair said there are now five bins around Coffs Harbour, with plans for another 15 to be in place by the end of the year.

The Seal The Loop program was created by Zoos Victoria in 2010 to raise awareness of the dangers of discarded fishing line to marine life in Port Phillip Bay in Victoria.

DMM has partnered with Coffs Harbour City Council and Zoos Victoria to bring the Seal The Loop program to NSW.

The bins are serviced by council with DMM collecting research data on bin usage.
