A feast of Group 1 racing
RACING: Victoria Derby Day is a ripper, the Cox Plate is special and the Melbourne Cup is "the race that stops a nation”, but this weekend of racing is right up there with the best on the Australian calendar.
The action gets under way at Moonee Valley tonight as the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) headlines an eight-race card that includes four black-type races.
The world's best sprinter, Chautauqua, will be back in action and he is a clear favourite in 2016 Moir Stakes betting with Ladbrokes, but he will still have a task on his hands to run down the likes of three-time winner Buffering and classy colt Extreme Choice.
Royal Randwick is the host to three Group 1 races tomorrow in the form of the Flight Stakes, The Metropolitan and the Epsom Handicap.
All the early money has been for the progressive Antonio Giuseppe in The Metropolitan betting but there are a host of other winning chances, particularly veteran Who Shot Thebarman at his current price.
There is no Winx in the 2016 Epsom Handicap field and that makes the Group 1 event a very interesting race. Palentino and Hauraki look to have a class edge over the field and it would not surprise to see them fight out the finish.
Omei Sword is a dominant favourite in Flight Stakes betting for trainer Chris Waller.
The feast of racing continues at Flemington on Sunday and all nine races are at black-type level.
The Turnbull Stakes is the feature and always a crucial trial for the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup.
Hartnell will start the 2016 edition of the Turnbull Stakes as favourite following his outstanding wins in both the Chelmsford Stakes and the Hill Stakes, with his performance set to decide which of the three majors he targets during the 2016 Spring Racing Carnival.
Don't miss out on the excitement this weekend - the Moir Stakes, Epsom Handicap and Turnbull Stakes betting markets are now available Ladbrokes.
